Vera and her baby in front of their house in Ukraine during the war after being helped with Mission to Ukraine.

What would you say to Vera?

No young woman grows up hoping to be an unwed mother, let alone be abandoned by the father of her unborn child the moment she finds out she’s pregnant. Nobody.

Certainly not Vera, who came to us at Mission to Ukraine seeking help.

Our first response is always the same when someone comes into our center. We listen. No judgment. No pointing fingers. No lectures. We simply listen. And silently, we pray.

And as we listened to Vera, this is what we heard …

Pain.

Abandonment.

Fear.

Shame.

And very little “hope” for the future.

Let me stop right here and ask you how you would respond if you were sitting in the room with Vera as she paced the floor with tears in her eyes – not knowing whether she should have an abortion or continue the pregnancy? What would you say? What reassurances might you legitimately offer this young lady?

Thankfully, because of your prayers and financial support, we were able to come alongside Vera with exactly what she needed …

  • for pain – we offered healing through loving counsel.
  • for abandonment – we invited her into a fellowship of other young women experiencing the same, letting her know she’s not alone.
  • for fear – we showed her that many of our current volunteers were once in her shoes, and they were able to make it through.
  • for shame – we pointed her to a forgiving God whose death on the cross removes all shame and guilt.

As far as “hope” goes – let me tell you what Vera said,

“Things are getting better day by day. Mission to Ukraine has helped me so much. They gave me food and clothing and even a cradle for my baby girl. They helped me believe in myself – and even more importantly to believe in God. I know now that there is hope.”

When you pray for – and financially support – the work of Mission to Ukraine … you’re directly helping Vera and her baby. And not just them – but 500 other young women in very similar situations. Some are married – yet facing a difficult financial situation. Others are single – and needing the loving support that you’re able to provide.

So today we just want to say THANK YOU … and ask that you continue to help us as we help Vera and so many others facing such life-defining moments in their lives.
