From Hopeless Mother to Bold Disciple of Christ: Svitlana’s Story
Svitlana Tells Her Story:
“Living in the quiet village of Hlynivets, I faced a surprising third pregnancy. My husband was unwilling to support me and pushed me into having an abortion. I was left feeling isolated and overwhelmed, with no one to confide in or lean on. I remember the day I stumbled upon an ad for Mission to Ukraine. It caught my eye with its promise of “Free help for unwanted pregnancies.” When I called, Olena answered and, though I was hurting and closed off, she spoke with compassion and understanding.
In that moment, MTU became my lifeline. They provided more than just material support—they offered hope. They helped me with clothes, a stroller, a crib, and all the essential items I needed for my baby. Their kindness went beyond what I could have ever imagined, especially when I felt all alone and disconnected from the world.
With their support, I began to see the miracle of life within me. Despite the initial reluctance, I chose to embrace my pregnancy and keep my baby. The journey wasn’t easy, but the love and encouragement I received from MTU helped me find peace. They connected me with a local church, and through that, I experienced the love of Jesus Christ. Accepting his salvation and love brought me a profound sense of peace and assurance from the Holy Spirit about my baby’s future. Ultimately, I was baptized and my life has never been the same since.
As my child grew, so did my desire to give back. I started inviting friends to church, sharing the comfort and faith that had transformed my life. Many of them found their own path to salvation and have been baptized, creating a ripple effect of hope and faith in our community.
Looking back, I am grateful for the unexpected support from this organization. Mission to Ukraine was not just a service; it was a lifeline that helped me transform my despair into a journey of faith and giving. My baby, now a year and a half old, is a testament to the power of hope and the incredible impact of the love of Christ.”
